Work for a Dollar, Dine on Rags

Description

The performance is a poignant tale about the impact of consumerism on the individual and society. The creative process was based on working with a 100 kg pile of clothing, symbolizing the excess and burden of material possessions. During the process, the dancers experienced genuine physical and mental strain caused by the presence of unnecessary garments—rags. Although the props were removed in the final version, their influence remained in the quality of movement—restricted and burdened, as if an invisible weight continued to constrain the body. In the performance, what at first appears to be light and free movement gradually transforms into a struggle for space and breath, reflecting the mechanisms of social pressure, exploitation, and the pursuit of ownership. The finale brings a symbolic liberation from invisible bonds, leaving the audience with a question: do we really need so much in order to be free?

Artist's/band's artistic biography

The group was formed in February 2024 as part of a diploma project at the Academy of Music in Łódź. The founder and choreographer of the ensemble is Wiktoria Frącz – a dancer, movement director, and graduate in choreography and dance pedagogy. The group consists of students from various artistic disciplines, united by a shared desire to create socially engaged dance. In our work, we emphasize teamwork, physical commitment, and movement experimentation. Choreographies are developed in close collaboration with the performers, taking into account their individual styles and capabilities. Our aim is to promote contemporary dance on Polish stages by addressing important and timely social issues.
