Choreography
Your Majesty
Description
“You stand with your back to me, you stand with your back to the viewer. I can’t see your face. I can’t see your eyes. I don’t know if your eyebrows are raised or the corners of your mouth are down. I don’t know what you’re thinking, I don’t know what you expect. I’d like to ask you for something.”
“Your Majesty” uses choreography to explore the topic of expectations and negotiations as communication strategies used in both the public and private spheres, on and off stage. The performance examines the different ways in which dialogue, dedication and request function through words and movement, in different configurations – solo, duet and trio. What does a request require from the sender and what from the recipient? When is it merely a suggestion, when does it become a command and when does it turn into an order? Is there an ideal response to a specific request? What happens when someone’s request seems ordinary and logical, but the body resists it? How do you negotiate without using words? Does a simple “please” end a negotiation or just begin it?
This show is dedicated to anyone who is unable to let go because of their pride and majesty.
This show is dedicated to anyone who believes in male-female friendship.
This show is dedicated to you and me.
