Everyone is Female

Description

The title "Everyone is Female" is grounded in the idea that femininity is not merely a biological category, but rather a complex, multidimensional experience that concerns everyone — regardless of sex or gender. The inspiration for this approach comes from an American writer and critic - Andrea Long Chu’s book "Females", which provocatively suggests that femininity can be understood as a universal existential condition. She writes: “Everyone is female - and everyone hates it. [...] I define as female any psychic operation in which the self is sacrificed to make room for the desires of another.” And further: “Gender is something other people have to give you. Gender exists, if it exists at all, only in the structural generosity of strangers. [...] The truth is, you are not the central transit hub for meaning about yourself, and you probably don't even have a right to be [...] You do not get to consent to yourself - a definition of femaleness [...] If sexual orientation is basically a social expression of one’s own sexuality, then gender is basically a social expression of someone else’s sexuality. In the former case, one takes an object; in the latter case, one is an object. From the perspective of gender, then, we are all dumb blondes.” "In this work, I seek affirmation of myself in your eyes. An affirmation that cannot bring satisfaction and is doomed to fail from the start. I am a privileged loser. I am Nobody, speaking on behalf of Everyone. I am a premature child in the school of the deaf and the blind. I advise the president, but he does not listen. I exploit, transgress, run for office, manipulate, and conquer. I carry the sick burden of masculinity. I am a blonde woman seeking her wisdom within myself. I wave a cock at you. I ask whether an impotent man is one who cannot act, or one who rapes. I draw a horse in a math book. I dance the swan lake. I sing in The Stevens, though I cannot sing. I really like to cook, but I will fry your eggs. I am width, I am what grows mighty. I hold up a mirror before you and look at myself in it. I don’t want to talk too much, burn anything, dress up, or do theatre. I give birth to words too weak—there are no words for this. I don’t want to tell stories or speak for everyone. I want change. A way out beyond the trap of rigid social frames of masculine duties. I am a middle-aged white cis hetero man, and I engage in subversion. Love me, or at least love yourself. 70% of the planet is water, 50–80% of our bodies too. Let the wave crash!" — Marek Gluziński
