Corpus

Description

Corpus is an attempt to visualise the ephemerality of sound and movement, approaching the dancing body synesthetically: sound being linked to the movement that produces it, movement as a hearable rhythm and vibration. The body creates tension, trying to effortlessly play with acousmatic and uncanny aspect of the voice-dance-phonosphere. The visual and sound layers compete for the viewer's attention, while the dancing body of the performer tries to give them equal space. I am constantly moving, making the rhythm, shaping time by it. The rhythm of my breath becomes hearable, naturally attached to the movement, changing accordingly. Having control over my voice, I keep the melody in various repetitions, dividing myself into polyrhythmic layers. When one has more freedom, the other seems to maintain the pattern, highlighting the qualities of the sound and movement. The almost impossible attempt of perfect repetition travels through the body dialoguing with itself. I am separating voice, breath and the body, trying to disrupt the togetherness, make the viewers wonder about the source of the sound and humannes of the voice. The visual side of the performance is created by Laura Adel. Using data from the Kinect Azure sensor, the visuals generate a multiplied representation of the dancing body. The performance merges body and technology, creating an immersive environment of mutual influence. As the visuals present a virtual representation of the body, the sound questions the nature of voice, and repetition blends human rhythm with digital iteration.
